Pod System - 7th semester Project

The Concept

In collaboration with B8, a Danish office furniture manufacture, the focus was to create a hospitality Pod for hotels lounges and conferences centres.

The result was a Pod System with the name Evoke. It nudges the users to socialize, and enables the venues to have many possible arrangement.

The project was done in the middle of January of 2018 in a team of four members with a conclusion in a joint oral exam with individual grades.

The primary element, called the pod-element, the typical sofa-pod with a seating capacity of 2-3 persons. The pod-element is divided into three parts; seating surface, backrest and top screen.

The top screen is an aesthetic element with three features. It diffuses light, creating an open enclosure and gives the feeling of a roof. It’s made of wooden slats mounted to the backrest.

The seating surface has an angle of 120°, turning two people’s bodies towards each other. This creates a more open body language and contributes to more casual conversations.

The pod-element has an integrated wheel system enables easy movability. This contributes the flexibility of the pod system in a context where furniture is moved on a daily basis.

The Anchor is the second element of the pod system. It serves a link between pod-elements when creating constellations. The Anchor can be used as both seating or table. The small square can be disconnected adding more flexibility when assembling.

The centre of the Anchor, can be detached revealing a compartment for storage. It can also be used for building shelves for creating “walls” of green elements, such as plants to create a more natural atmosphere.

The idea behind Evoke is to create what is called “islands" of natural and cosy atmosphere where people can mingle and interact on a loose basis.

Evoke enables huge numbers of constellations but in a logic way, enables the ability of novice users to use their creativity when creating these constellations.
