The course “Integrated Design” introduced a two-person workshop called “Define-Do-Sell” with intention to design, manufacture and sell self-designed product within 15 days.
Working together with a fellow student, the idea of creating a clock was thought to create a possible business case where the team had the skills to manufacture 20 pieces.
The aesthetics has heavy inspiration in minimalistic scandinavian design with a complete wooden construction. A black base is in high contrast to the 7 wooden slats creating an intreging view.
The clock consists of four elements; a base, seven slats, the clock work and the clock hands. The manufacturing process starts by cutting the base with a CNC machine to achieve a high and uniform precision. A protective prime layer followed by a spray painting job completes the process of the base.
The slats are manufactured by hand. This is done to keep a strong focus on the craftsmanship creating a story to the final product. It also adds value to the customer by knowing the experience required to create the product. Finally, the clock work is glued into the base, the slats are mounted and the clock arms are attached to the clock work finishing the assembly process.
